Created as a sanctuary to protect and honor New Orleans Jazz in 1961, Preservation Hall is still going strong more than 50 years later. Check out this cool slideshow on their homepage. On any night you can stop by the Hall to hear New Orleans Jazz played by both the old guard (jazz musicians in the 70s and 80s) and younger musicians honing their craft until the gates close. While you’re waiting for the music to start, stop by the Old U.S. Mint to see the exhibit Preservation Hall at 50. It was supposed to stop running in 2012, so check with the Old U.S. Mint first.
